OOTD: Cherry Blossoms and Lela Rose

I’ve been a fan of designer Lela Rose and her expressive use of color and print for years, so of course I was excited from the moment I heard about her collab with Lane Bryant.  Having a chance to wear her beautiful designs in plus, for a fraction of the price of her gorgeous core label?  YES.  Although I usually shy away from yellow, this chartreuse swing dress called to me during the preview last fall.  Yellow is one of the biggest color trends for spring (see my Runway to Plus feature in Plus Model Magazine, page 55), so I decided to go for it.

Though I was hesitant about this nearly-neon shade on my pale skin, I actually loved the color on. I particularly liked the contrast with my newly-brunette hair (my natural color!).  The construction of the dress is lovely – it is made of a fabric that feels like a cross between a woven and scuba, so it is lightweight, substantial, and has a bit of stretch.  That stretch was essential for me – my usual size in this dress was too small, and I had to size up to an 18.  Even at a size up, this fits a bit snug across the chest, and does not have the true swing dress feel I was hoping for.  I made it work with a belt, but if you are busty like me and looking for a flowier silhouette, this might not be the dress for you.  This dress is already sold out online, but look for it in stores, and try it on if you see it – even if you don’t usually wear yellow, it may surprise you!  If you want a more low key way to rock the trend, check out this tee made from the same beautiful lace on the yoke of the dress.

While shooting, I got a little silly with the cherry blossoms in the park (can you tell I’m happy Spring is here?).  Though this dress is sold out online, here are still pieces from the Lela Rose x Lane Bryant collab available that are perfect for the season.  I am particularly fond of the Watercolor Floral Tee (which I also have and love), and the Graphic Tulle Print dress (perfect for any spring or summer weddings or daytime parties).  I recommend sizing up one size across the board if you are busty.
