Plus Size Fall Jackets: The Standout Trends of 2021

Trends are a funny thing.  Some of them are cut and dry: A ubiquitous print, or a silhouette that is everywhere.  Some are more nebulous – more of a vibe than a particular item.  But sometimes, the whole trend can be boiled down to one specific piece.  This Fall/Winter season, there are a few that are ruling the day, especially when it comes to outerwear.  I love trending jackets, because they make it easy to stay current: Incorporating any of these items into your wardrobe is an instant update, and they play well with classics we likely already have in our closets – no full overhaul needed!

So if you are shopping for a jacket, consider one of these reigning champs in the fashion world:

The Shacket: If I had to choose one “it” item for outerwear, the shirt jacket would win hands down.  I’m wearing one right now as I type this.  They are so omnipresent this season, I wrote a whole separate post about them (including my top picks and 10 different ways to style them), but I’d be remiss not to include them in this list.  I’ve also seen a bunch of cute new ones pop up online since I wrote my last post (including this chic number from one of my favorite designers), so I’m adding more to my best-of list below:

Quilted Jackets:  When it comes to textures, quilting is it this season – and based on the runways and trend forecasts, it is here to stay throughout 2022.  The look, which is more duvet than puffer, is also surprisingly cozy.  My exact BlankNYC jacket is already sold out, but this one is very similar (and if it is anything like mine, VERY soft).  This style tends to add a little volume up top, but don’t be scared to lean into it by pairing with a pair wide leg jeans like I did here.  If you want to go for more balanced proportions, this style looks great with a more fitted ribbed sweater dress and boots too.  I’ve rounded up the best quilted jackets available in plus below, so click through to find your fave

Leather Blazers: As a notorious blazer lover, this is a trend I can wholeheartedly get behind.  I love the look of a blazer layered over just about anything, and the warmth of a leather (or faux) version makes the seasonal transition a snap. The aesthetic of a leather blazer is also so good – a great blend of edgy and sharp. The structure of the style also offers some waist definition that the other trending jackets don’t, so if that is something you are looking for, this cut is for you. I already have two black vegan leather blazers of my own (including this double breasted one that is still available), but there are some tempting options on them market right now, including a luxe real leather version that I wish I had the budget for.  Click through below for all the best plus leather blazer options available to shop now:
