OOTD: Chromat Athleisure
I’ve been a fan of Chromat for years. Their “structural experiments for the human body” tagline was immediately intriguing; and when I went to my first Chromat NYFW show at MADE, and the model opening the show was none other than plus super Denise Bidot, I was entirely smitten. Interviewing designer Becca McCharen after the show only confirmed that my love for Chromat is well founded. I’ve been craving some Chromat of my own ever since, so I was ecstatic when I finally got this bell skirt cage.
I’ve worn this skirt before, including to the coldest fashion week ever in February, where it was sadly hidden under a wool coat most of the time. This look is my favorite thus far – the first time this piece has meshed so well with the overall look while simultaneous making a statement of its own.
I got this BB Dakota dress as part of my Gwynnie Bee subscription, and loved the sporty look of the waffle knit and the ringer edging – it reminds me of something I might have pined over in a delia*s catalog. I knew I wanted to pair it with my perforated slides, but the reverse racer neckline posed a practical problem: None of my bras were cooperating. I didn’t want to cover up the contrast neckline, so I embraced the 90’s vibe and put a baby tee… erm… a crop top underneath. That just amped up the athleisure aesthetic, but I still felt like something was missing. When my eye landed on the Chromat cage skirt in my closet, I knew it was the final piece. I hesitated for a second though – it wasn’t NYFW; I wasn’t heading to any fashion parties that night – was I doing too much for a random Wednesday? In the end, I decided to just go for it. It ended up being a fantastic day – everyone loved the look, and I introduced so many people to one of my favorite brands. The whole thing served as a reminder: Don’t fall into the trap of saving your favorite pieces for a special occasion; just wear what makes you happy whenever it is calling your name.
