One Summer Dress Two Ways with Lane Bryant

This post is sponsored by Lane Bryant.  All thoughts and opinions my own, as always!

All season, I’ve been on the hunt for a pretty lightweight linen blend dress to wear during the hottest days of the summer, and I finally found my ideal one from Lane Bryant.

One of the biggest trends of Summer 2019 is the button front dress, and this light blue striped midi is a really well-done example of the style.  The fit is spot on, even through the bust, which is usually a problem fit area for me, especially when it comes to button-down styles.  I generally find Lane Bryant’s fit to be one of their strengths, so this isn’t a surprise, but it still feels really good to feel so confident in a style that has been such a challenge for me in the past!

I also am super into all the thoughtful details that elevate it above the typical button front dress.  I love the pointed basque bodice detail, and the adjustable drawstring waist makes it easy to fit for various body shapes.  All together, the effect looks much more expensive than its very reasonable price point.

I am also always here for pieces that I can wear multiple ways.  Styled with nude sandals and a straw tote, this dress is perfect for a fancy picnic in the park (one of my favorite ways to spend a warm weekend day).  The longer midi length is practical too, as it makes it possible to sit down on a blanket without flashing everyone – always an important consideration!

When paired with white ankle booties and a structural tote, it has a completely different vibe: A little less sweet; a little more New York.  Which look do you prefer?

And just look at the movement on the skirt!  The volume actually has a practical aspect too: As I have been walking around the hot and humid city today, feeling the air on my legs has been heavenly relief from the stickiness in the air.  The linen blend material is lightweight enough that I am cool and comfortable even with sleeves, so if you are looking for a dress with sleeves that you won’t overheat in, this is the one!

The dress fits true to size (I’m wearing an 18 here, which is my usual dress size for all non-stretch pieces).  For my picnic look, I’m also wearing a pretty scalloped version of my very favorite block heel sandals.  I now have this sandal in six different colors, and I have no plans to stop anytime soon.  The wide width cut and the short block heel make them totally walkable, even for long days in the city.   This neutral color works as a nude on me too, which is a wardrobe staple I can’t believe I didn’t have already.  I’ll be wearing this pair out this summer.
