My Go-To Summer Outfit Formula with Curvy Contemporary

Summer is finally truly here, which means it is time for my tried and true summer outfit: A soft, lightweight, flowy top + cutoff shorts + espadrille wedges.  This simple formula adds up to an effortlessly fashionable look that can go from the farmer’s market to brunch to beach barbecues with ease.  As soon as I saw the summer New Arrivals from Curvy Contemporary, I knew I’d found new tops that would be in heavy rotation this season.

This embroidered yoke tee is made from the softest jersey knit, and just feels so good on.  I did my signature partial front tuck with these short shorts, but this tee also looks great worn untucked and flowy.  I’ll also be tucking it fully into a wrap skirt to play up the Spanish countryside vibes.

The detailing is gorgeous, and looks much pricier than it actually is.  So many brands would just have a print instead of actually having real embroidered details, and it makes such a difference.  The quality of the Curvy Contemporary tops I’ve tried has been great across the board, so I’m not surprised.

The shorts and wedges combo makes even short legs like mine look long, and with comfortable wedges like these espadrilles from Vionic, I walk all over Manhattan with no problem.  This is my first pair of Vionic shoes, and I am so impressed: They actually have orthopedic technology built in, including a signature heel cup that cradles the foot, distributing weight and keeping toes from sliding forward.  And they come in wide width!

I played up the red embroidery with a bold matte lip and a red embroidered crossbody (via Dia & Co., similar here and here for the Gucci version) accented with this season’s tassel charm mini-trend.

For another iteration of this outfit, I reached for a flowy bell-sleeve top with even more red.  This rich cherry color is the star of the show on it’s own, especially with the rows of on-trend multicolored stripes embroidered at the top.

With that festive color party already happening in the top itself, I kept the accompanying colors neutral, from white shorts and espadrille wedges, to a muted nude matte lip with just a hint of red in the undertones.  Just like the tee, this boho-chic top is made from an incredibly soft jersey, and is so comfortable on.

I loved pairing this Curvy Contemporary top with super short cutoffs, but if this cheeky vibe isn’t your speed (or isn’t in line with the dress code for the day), you can just as easily swap out the white shorts for a pair of cropped white jeans for a more polished look.

I was really feeling the embroidery accents from Curvy Contemporary when I ordered (and still am!), but this outfit formula works just as well with ethereal flowy tops with mesh accents or ones with whimsical pom-pom trimmings.   I ended up getting the peach top too, and will definitely be using my summer outfit formula to style it.  Nothing like a good bit of simple fashion math!

So happy that it’s the season for these cute and comfortable looks!  They are super easy to recreate too, and I’ve partnered with Curvy Contemporary to make it even easier:  Use my coupon code CURVILY for 40% off any top for a limited time!
