Styling a Concert Tee

I love a good live show, and the feeling of seeing an artist you love and realizing they are even better IRL is incomparable.  I recently had this wonderful experience while seeing British indie-pop band Fickle Friends at Rough Trade in Brooklyn.  It was their first show in NYC (and their first tour in the U.S.), so I was so happy to be part of it.  After a full set singing along to some of my favorite songs in the front row, I knew I wanted a memento.  So I stopped at the merch table on the way out and picked up a band tee.

As soon as I saw it the shirt, I knew it would pose the typical styling dilemma of a boxy Hanes-line band tee.  When I was a teenager I’d just wear one as-is with some bootcut jeans (*shudder*), but that’s not going to cut it for my adult life in NYC.  So I dreamt up a couple of ways to wear a concert tee that bring fashion into the equation.  My first tip is not to be afraid to tie and cuff it.  Try rolling up the sleeves while tucking it into an on-trend wrap skirt for an of-the-moment look that still says something about you.  Pair this combo with a block heeled sandal to dress it up, or a white sneaker for a fun casual look.  If you want to go for something a bit more pulled together, a statement suit in a color complementary to the band tee is the way to go.  Tie up the hem just above the waistband to accentuate the tailored fit of the suit pant.   For this elevated jeans look, I found a neon headband to tie up the hem of the shirt to a cropped length that looks more modern. I added side stripe denim, my beloved Premme organza trench, and furry fuchsia sneakers to complete the pink-themed look.
