Party Pants: Wide Leg Velvet Trousers FTW

Sometimes (and especially during the holiday season) a party dress feels de rigueur. While I love a good sequin shift or a fun LBD, sometimes I just don’t feel like wearing a dress.  The day of the #PlusPop party was one of those times, so when these wide leg velvet pants from Lane Bryant came in the mail, the weight of my outfit woes were immediately lifted from my shoulders.  The rich velvet looks festive, and the stretch fabric feels like PJs.  I decided to up the comfort factor by forgoing underwire and just wearing a bralette underneath a sheer bodysuit.  I love the visual interest of the layers of perforations and mesh, and the textural contrast with the plush pants – all black does not have to mean basic!  I topped this with a blue fur coat to keep the chill at bay until it was time to party, and this look took me through a full day of errands and meetings in the city before I headed to the pop up at the Gregory Hotel on 35th between 5th and 6th.

With silver heeled booties and a gold lip embellished clutch from the NARS x Man Ray collab, I was party ready and still oh so comfortable.  For a dressier occasion or an office party where you need to be a bit more covered up, these pants would look amazing paired with a long sleeve sequin bodysuit or a form fitting metallic sweater.
