What to Wear: Fall Wedding Guest Edition

Deciding what to wear to a wedding can be a daunting task, especially as the seasons change and a cheery summer sundress starts to look out of place.   Then there are the “what not to wear” considerations – I usually have no room for fashion “rules,” but the traditional guideline against wearing a white dress if it is not your wedding is one I do recommend following (unless the bride has explicitly asked everyone to wear white, a la Solange).  Small bits of white or ivory are okay (in a print, for instance), but my rule of thumb is squint at your potential dress and ask yourself whether anyone would consider referring to it as a “white dress” – if so, don’t wear it.  There are also dance-ability and comfort considerations to take into account.  I found my perfect wedding guest dress from Lane Bryant (above) – a swingy grey and black lace shift that is comfortable and cute (and it has pockets!).  Bonus: It comes in Petite (which is what I am wearing).  This dress is a wedding sure thing, but I’ve scoured the internet for the best plus wedding guest dresses below, with options at every budget:
