NYFW Day 5 OOTD: Velvet Crush

Velvet has been hinting at a comeback for a while, but it has truly arrived for Fall 2017.  The moment I saw this pleated crushed velvet skirt from Gwynnie Bee, I knew I wanted to really embrace the trend with a full velvet look.  There’s no time like NYFW to commit to a theme, so I wore this look to all my shows for the day (including Tracy Reese, which was fabulous – show report coming soon!).

I decided to go for a tonal palette of pinks, with pale blush sandals, a pinky-neutral top, and a matte dusty rose lip.  As this has been the coolest September NYFW I’ve ever attended, a jacket was a must, so I finished the look my new burgundy moto jacket from Ellos.

This textural monochrome look was also perfect for attending 29 Rooms with my friend, model and blogger Alex LaRosa.  I hadn’t had a chance to go to this yearly interactive art installation before, so I was so excited to check it out.

We headed to the Lizzo-created disco ball room almost immediately (I mean, could Alex’s dress be any more perfect for it?)

There were photo opps galore, from Pollock-inspired walls to immersive flower pods.

Based on sheer joy alone, I think the unicorn carousel might have been my favorite.

It even coordinated with my outfit 🙂

Not everything was lighthearted, with plenty of rooms coming with a clear message.  The Women are the Future room emphasized the fight for equality, and hitting the punching bag with that in mind was quite cathartic.

This room was covered all the way down to the floor with protest posters covering women’s issues across the board.

Feminism IS intersectional, after all.

We ended up in the Laughter room afterwards, with streamers, bubbles, and random laughter sounds playing.  Laughter actually is infectious.

Even with 3 hours to explore, we didn’t get to all the rooms, but we still had an amazing, if exhausting time.  Thank you Alex for the invite!

Tip: Bring a bottle of water in your bag, as there is no place to get a drink inside!
