OOTD: Suede Mini and OTK Boots

I think we all have those pieces in our closet: Things we were really excited about when we bought, but end up thinking “not today” and moving on every time we consider them while getting dressed in the morning, because we just can’t figure out how we want to wear them.  Sometimes the consideration is practical, like with these over the knee (OTK) boots I got last summer from Lane Bryant – definitely something I stashed until it started feeling like winter.  But this suede mini is something I expected to wear immediately, and ended up languishing in my closet for months with the tag on.  So this weekend, I decided to take a little time and tackle styling this skirt.

The main challenge with this piece is the length.  I love a good short skirt, but this one has a flippy hem, so there is too much danger of cheek showing without opaque leggings underneath.  My go-to Chelsea or moto boots didn’t work with the more boho style of the skirt, so I kept trying shoe options.  I skipped suede booties as well, as it felt like overkill.  When I finally thought to pull these over the knee boots out of the back of the closet, I felt like I hit the jackpot.  This style is sold out – I got them on sale from LB last summer – but I’ve rounded up a few good options in wide calf below:

I added a crew neck cashmere blend sweater and a statement necklace to top off the casual daytime look, perfect for a coffee shop date with my husband.

Crewneck sweater: Joe Fresh (similar)

Faux suede mini button-through skirt: Boohoo (size up on this one!)
