OOTD: Cobalt Culottes

I have been increasingly adventurous about trends lately, but one had eluded me for over a year: Culottes.  This piece has been a key item on the runways, season after season, and shows no sign of letting up soon.  And still, I found myself intimidated by the trend (hey, it happens to everyone!).  When I saw this gorgeous cobalt pair on Lane Bryant, though, I knew it was time to take the proverbial plunge.

I sized up one size on these culottes to make sure they fit comfortably (the last thing I want is wide leg pants that are tight in the crotch!) and that was the right decision.  Sizing up, the fit was spot on – lots of drama with the volume of the leg, but nicely fitted through the waist and stomach.  I initially planned to wear these with a crop top and strappy sandals for a night out (another great option), but in the end I decided to go for a fashion forward business look for a networking dinner. I contrasted a ladylike strand of Chanel pearls with menswear inspired loafers, and balanced out the billowing pants with a fitted cropped blazer over a subtle bodysuit. I felt like a boss.

Have you tried the trend yet?  Even if you are hesitant, I highly recommend it (and the pair I’m wearing is currently on sale!) There are tons of fab plus size culotte options, and I’ve round up some of the best for you below:
