Sweater Weather: Curvy Contemporary Knits Lookbook

There is something so wonderful about the temperatures dipping just low enough to let you snuggle up with a great sweater – as soon as I start thinking about autumn, I start eyeing knits. When I saw Curvy Contemporary’s Fall 2018 collection, I felt like I struck sweater gold, and immediately knew I wanted to partner with them to do a knit lookbook.  Their collection has everything from lightweight knits perfect for all these unseasonably hot days, to full on chunky sweaters that will keep you warm on the crispest nights.   I styled four of my favorite Curvy Contemporary knits below, with bonus styling suggestions for each look. The Side Ruched Sweater

I’ve been on a fuchsia kick for almost a year now, so as soon as I saw this rich hue on CurvyContemporary.com I knew it was going to be a piece for me.  This sweater is a super lightweight knit, which is perfect for these weird 80 degree days in October we keep having.

I’m also super into pieces that are transformers like this one.  The on-trend ruching detail on the side is full adjustable, so you can scrunch it way up like I did for a dramatic asymmetric look, or cinch it more loosely for a longer line on the top (you can see what this looks like on the Curvy Contemporary site).

For a day to night look with a little flash and lots of comfort, I paired this rich fuchsia sweater with the new joggers from Curvy Contemporary and sequin boots.  These joggers are true to size and sooooo soft.  I plan on wearing this same look again with my rose gold stripe classic Adidas for a low key weekend athleisure vibe.

The Long Tunic/Short Dress

Olive is another color I’ve been loving this season, and this longline tunic sweater called to me as soon as I saw it.  I am on the short side at 5’4″, so wearing it as a sweater dress was a no-brainer for me.  I got my usual Curvy Contemporary size (1x), and it fits perfectly oversized (as the dolman style is meant to).

This tunic is on the lightweight side for a sweater too, which makes it perfect for layering.  I liked the semi-sheer opacity for a cheeky vibe on a warmer day, but you can just add solid tank underneath for more coverage.  As the weather cools, this sweater will look great with black leggings, tall boots, and a cropped moto jacket.

This is another style that is offered in multiple colors, and also features a functional adjustable detail with the cinched sleeves.  You can make them longer or shorter to suit your look (or your cozy level!)  Thoughtful touches like these always make me appreciate an item more in my wardrobe, and I’ve already worn this sweater a few times, so I think it adds to the wearability too!

The Must-Have Black Sweater

I’ve been in NYC for over a decade now, but before I moved here I heard a lot of stereotypes about New Yorkers.  Some were completely overblown (New Yorkers aren’t mean, we’re just in a hurry!); but one that was spot on was our collective love for wearing black.  As much as I love a good colorful look, there is something so perfectly cosmopolitan about a great head-to-toe black outfit.

This sleek palette is easy to style, but I always want to make sure that my all-black looks have interesting details that elevate them well out of the range of basic.

The fringe detailing on this cozy Curvy Contemporary sweater is a perfect example. I still get all the comfort and sleekness of a longer line black sweater, but the statement sleeves keep it interesting.

This sweater is true to size, and has a cute subtle high-low hem detail.  If you love this style but want it in a different hue, you are in luck.  Curvy Contemporary offers this same sweater in a pretty pale green and a rich ivory that I am eyeing for myself now too (I always love a good winter white moment).

The Luxe Sweaterdress

I’ve come to know Curvy Contemporary as a source for quality plus size tops and sweaters, so I was pleasantly surprised to see their product offering expanding this season, first with their new jogger pants, and now with this beautiful sweater dress.

This is an even heavier knit than the black fringe sleeve sweater, so this is best suited for those really crisp late fall days, and will transition seamlessly to winter (just add opaque tights!)

I wasn’t sure about the sizing for this dress, so I sized up one and got a 2x to be on the safe side.  Turns out, this has plenty of stretch without sacrificing the built-in structure of the design, so I probably could have stuck with my usual 1x.  This size definitely works, but I think I’d prefer it a bit snugger for a little vavavoom 🙂

This dress is coming soon to CurvyContemporary.com – just keep an eye out on my Instagram and I’ll let you know when it is shoppable!
