Trying the Trend: Ruching

It is always kind of fun to see a trend that has long been ubiquitous to plus become the “new thing” in the wider fashion world (see: last year’s cold shoulder craze).  For 2018, that trend is ruching, and it is back with a vengeance.  This gathered fabric detail is showing up everywhere from skirts to sleeves, and can add fun texture when done correctly.  However, all ruching is not good ruching, and there are so many bad options in plus, so I’m here to help you navigate this tricky trend.

In tops, look for statement-y details, like ruched fronts or gathered sleeves.  Adjustable ruching, like on Premme’s fun LBD, is a good place to start.  In dressed and skirts, all over ruching can add textural interest, and also allows you to choose the length of your liking on mini skirts (I went for short-short here!)  If you are new to bodycon dresses, this detail also can make the silhouette a bit more approachable, as it doesn’t cling as much.  I’ve rounded up all my favorite ruched picks in plus below – click through to find your favorite:

Bonus – these boots are 50% off now, and are such a good wardrobe addition (the low block heel means I can actually walk in them!):
