The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, or, as hardcore shoppers call it, the NSale, is something of an event. It is unique because it is a sale that happens BEFORE the fashion season begins, and gives a chance to shop new season fall items at end-of-season prices. And it is definitely a limited-time thing: The prices of everything in the Anniversary Sale will go back up to their full price once it is over on Sunday, July 31st.

So it’s definitely different from most sales, but that doesn’t mean that every single thing in the sale is newsworthy. For me, in order to warrant a purchase, an NSale item needs to either be:

• A quality item from a brand that rarely goes on sale
• A trending piece that I will want to wear all season to get the most bang for my buck
• Something that I love that will likely sell out before it hits end-of-season markdowns months later
• A designer deal
