Classic With a Twist: White Button Down + Pencil Skirt
I love the idea of taking a classic outfit and putting my own spin on it. The combination of a crisp white button down and a sleek pencil skirt has been a office staple for decades, but it does not need to be basic. With a caped sleeve, lace hem, and sheer layers, I added some drama to the mix.
Both the top and the skirt are from Ashley Nell Tipton’s Boutique+ collection, available exclusively at JCPenney. I actually bought each piece about a year apart, but when I was styling my new skirt, the caped white cropped shirt worked so perfectly with the high-waisted skirt.
The lace detail on the hem and the side slit is just hot, and I felt great the moment I put it on in the dressing room. The midi length keeps it appropriate for work when paired with a classic top though. My styling is a bit more risque, however: I layered it over a black criss-cross bralette, playing up the semi-sheerness of the top.
I added a pop of color with my smiley face crossbody and a classic red lip. My ankle strap block heels completed the look – I am so loving this walkable shoe trend!
