OOTD: Making a Boho Skirt Anything But

Sometimes, a garment has a vibe all its own. This button through flecked dot skirt from BB Dakota definitely does: Very boho. It would have been easy (and cute) to style this with an off the shoulder top and lace up sandals, but that morning I wasn’t really feeling like festival fashion. So instead, I decided to play against type and style it as athleisure.

With a striped crop top and perforated slides, I was able to switch up the skirt’s default aesthetic for something that better matched my mood that day.

Styling Tip: Feel free to be inspired by the obvious look of a garment, but don’t feel beholden to it!

The bright red also added a pop of color to an otherwise grey day.  The view from Brooklyn Bridge Park is gorgeous even when a fog hangs over the city, though, so my friend and I ended up spending more time at the waterfront than in the galleries we came to DUMBO to visit.
