This downtown look exemplifies what I used to be scared of, fashion-wise: A lot of different design elements in one outfit.  I used to err on the side of simplicity, so I never would have combined a mixed media skirt (with a peplum, leather, and grommets) with a printed top, let alone a leopard one.  Now, contrasting textures and patterns is one of my favorite parts of getting dressed.  I actually wanted to take this look one step further with the addition of colored tights, but practicality won out – the skirt is lined, but the grommets near the hem have a tendency to snag if the lining shifts up – so I went with sturdy leggings instead.  Even with the otherwise monochrome palette, this look reminded me of how much my personal style has evolved over the last couple of years, and I loved it.
