OOTD: Non-Schoolgirl Plaid

Oh, plaid.  As predictable a trend for fall as florals are for spring.  Groundbreaking.  But there’s a reason it is a perennial favorite, especially in tartan red – it has become evocative of cool temps and holiday cheer.  It is also a serious statement piece – the perfect thing to get from Gwynnie Bee, my beloved clothing subscription service (for sizes 10-32).  I ended up wearing this plaid shift dress a couple of times before sending it back to get something new, and saved myself precious closet space real estate for the rest of the year (when plaid will no longer call my name).  In Manhattan, that is a HUGE benefit of renting instead of buying.  Reason 317 I heart GB.

When styling this classic shift, I purposefully aimed to contrast the prep school uniform vibes so inherent to the style.  Adding my favorite moto jacket*, black tights, and flat Chelsea boots gave it a vaguely Brit punk edge instead – much better!

* This jacket is actually another reason I love Gwynnie Bee – I have always had such a hard time finding the right fit on a faux leather moto, and I finally found it in one of my GB shipments, and was able to buy it for a fraction of the retail price.  I’ve had this jacket for years now and it remains a key piece in my wardrobe.

Why buy it when you can GB it? Free shipping. Free exchanges. Free 30-day wardrobe rental.
