OOTD: More Than Flattering

I’m pretty sure I am breaking every rule in the proverbial book with this outfit: Oversized, striped, short, no leg-lengthening heels.  These are all things we’ve seen listed as major don’ts, especially if you are not a willowy model.  They’re not flattering, we’re told.  But you know what?  I love it.  This outfit just feels like *me* – when I found this oversized sweater/dress at H&M, I spent 15 minutes in the fitting room dancing around happily in it (don’t worry, there wasn’t a line!).  It’s fun and feels like a sartorial expression of who I am, so I am not going to let arbitrary fashion rules tell me I can’t wear it.

I’ve written about the importance of putting personal style first before, and so have many of my favorites, from Gabifresh to Leandra Medine of Man Repeller.  “Flattering” is code for looking as skinny as possible, and there is SO much more to fashion than minimizing yourself.
