OOTD: What I Wore to the Natori NYFW Afterparty
Before the full craziness of NYFW kicked in, I spent a night hopping around designer events and presentations. I started off at the Josie Natori afterparty. I was unable to attend the show, but followed along on Instagram and delighted both in the stark whites and solids with great structure, and the use of bold prints – something Natori consistently excels at. I particularly loved the final walk, which featured a run of new looks: All bright, flowy pants paired with a variety of crisp white tops.
The afterparty was held at the Natori boutique on Elizabeth Street, a unique spot that rotates concepts every couple of months. Right now, it has a gorgeous autumnal feel, with pieces from the AW14 Josie Natori ready to wear collection on display. I tried on a few pieces, my favorite being a rich oxblood wool cocoon cardi. The laser cut design contrasted with the the natural fiber to create something striking and unique. This piece was also a one size deal, and I think it would fit up to a size 22 comfortably.
I also got to chat with the designer herself again, who was excited to discuss the upcoming expansion of sizes, and the larger sizes already offered. In addition to the kimonos and robes from the straight size collection that would fit a variety of plus sizes, and some jersey dresses that work for smaller plus sizes (like this gorgeous purple chevron print), there is a selection of items across the Natori brands that are offered in plus. One of my current favorites is this resort-ready caftan, which makes me want to jet off to the Greek Isles ASAP. Natori also offers lingerie in plus, from delicate lace trimmed chemises to luxe basics.
And of course, Natori makes bras. When I was still in the triple D range, I loved Natori, so I was happy to learn from Ms. Natori herself that they now offer sizes up to 40H (with more to come in the future). After that conversation, I promptly went online and bought the Uplift bra, which is great for every day wear with smooth cups and flat straps that are wide enough to prevent pinching, but slim enough to wear with tank tops, or something with shoulder cut-outs, like this gorgeous Carmakoma sheath. (I had a funny moment where I was talking to Josie Natori at the afterparty about bras and realized I had one of her designs on at that moment – definitely did not realize that when I was getting dressed that morning!) So if you want an idea how they fit on the larger end, just see above 🙂
I’m heading to another Natori event tonight, and I’d love to ask Josie and her team any questions you might have about the full figured and plus options and fit. Leave them in the comments below!
I can’t have an OOTD post without outfit details, of course. This Carmakoma dress from Gwynnie Bee was a lifesaver when all my planned NYFW outfits were suddenly stifling to even consider (thanks a lot, early September heatwave!) It all worked out though, because I am in love with the abstract, almost dreamlike print on this dress. It was perfectly lightweight and breezy for the heat, but could work for cooler temps with a wool cardigan, tights, and boots.
