Cozy and Festive in Curvy Contemporary for the Holidays

It’s that time of year when your social calendar fills up with all sorts of holiday functions, from casual potlucks to fancy NYE parties. It is also the time of year when temperatures plummet, and throwing on just a skimpy cocktail dress sounds like less of a good idea and more of a major frostbite risk. So I partnered with Curvy Contemporary to style three different looks around some of my snuggliest sweaters from them to have you cute and cozy for all your holiday parties and beyond.  Read to the end for a special coupon code for Curvily readers!

For a low-key potluck or a casual family get-together

I am all for festive colors, but what’s better than putting a fashionable twist on the expected?  Instead of the usual holiday bright green, go for a cozy statement sleeve sweater in a lush shade of sage.

The high-low hemline on this Curvy Contemporary sweater makes it perfect for layering over leggings or skinny denim, and over the knee boots worn with fuzzy socks keeps the warmth going all the way to your toes.  If you don’t have high boots, this look works just as well with a good pair of ankle boots.

The fringe detailing on the sleeve is fun and festive, and for me, it kind of evokes the old-fashioned tree-hued tinsel my Grama used to wrap around the tree every year <3  The sleeves can also serve as a conversation piece if the dinner chat gets dry (“Oh yeah, statement sleeves are having a moment this season!” is the perfect response if anyone mentions them, and can shift the convo away from awkward topics to fashion).

This sweater brings all the personality, so you can throw it on and go with pretty much anything.  I’m speaking from experience too – this is actually my second sweater in this style.  I went for the black my first time (typical New Yorker move), but the fun accents are more prominent in this pale green, and I am super into this sage and tan palette – it just screams cozy.

For a fancier family dinner or an office holiday party

This gorgeous wine-colored capelet cardi from Curvy Contemporary is another subtle twist on the expected holiday palette.  The reddish hue and the flouncy details make it festive, but the deeper purple tones of the merlot shade give it a rich, regal vibe.

This knit capelet has an open front with ribbed detailing, and fastens under the arms with buttons, giving it extra versatility: Unbutton them and you can wear this as a wrap or even an oversized scarf!

I love it worn as a cape though, and I paired it with an all-black look to let the pretty color really pop.  I added my old pair of leopard boots to give it a little trendy edge, but any pair of ankle boots would work with this.

This capelet also passes two of my most important functionality tests for family gatherings: Can I squat down to play with a baby or pull a dish out of the oven without anything showing? Check!  Can I subtly unbutton my pants after a big dinner and nobody will notice? Check 😀 It is also super soft, and just feels really nice on.

For a big night out

I love a real holiday party, but until the dancing gets started, I’m often freezing in my sleeveless party dress.  Adding this lovely cable knit duster and belting it with a ribbon is the perfect way to be both warm and well-dressed.

This Curvy Contemporary duster is such a versatile piece, and looks great in a casual outfit paired with jeans and a tee, but I wanted to test it’s party chops with this look.  I paired it black over the knee boots for warmth and style, and you can add black or colored tights too if you don’t want any exposed leg skin (completely fair when the temps are so frigid!).  If high boots are not your thing, a short bootie can be really fun too.

I complemented the oversized cable knit on the sweater with an oversized Kendra Scott tassel necklace for extra sparkle, but if you really want to amp up the glitz (on New Year’s Eve, for example), this sweater and boot pairing would look so good with a short sequin dress – and it would also mitigate the worst part about sleeveless sequin looks: The otherwise inevitable scratches on the inner arm!

I shot this look downtown at Brookfield Place during golden hour before a date night with my husband (another great use of this outfit!), and I was cozy even with the cold wind coming off the waterfront.  This sweater will definitely be getting a lot of use this winter.
