Fall 2018 Trend Report: Leopard from Minimal to Maximal
As you may have noticed, leopard is trending this season. Leopard print itself is veering towards timelessness – never truly going out of style – but intense leopard-forward looks are definitely having a moment this fall. This combo of current hotness and guaranteed longevity makes this trend an easy decision to shop: You can wear the pieces now, combining them for maximum impact, and you can continue to incorporate leopard accents into your wardrobe for years to come.
I clearly am in “more-is-more” mode when it comes to this print trend, wearing four (!!!) different leopards for this look. If you are new to print on print mixing, one of the classic tips to ease into it is looking for prints of a similar scale. I put this to use for my outfit, layering a leopard tee under the spaghetti strap dress for an updated pinafore effect. My beloved Kate Spade convertible purse has a larger scale leopard print accent, but I just decided to go for it 🙂
The deluge of leopard available now means there are also fun options in colors decidedly not found in nature. I loved combining colored leopard print with a piece in a more traditional hue. I’m particularly into red leopards paired with neutral tones.
Leopard Tops
Whether you want to ease into the leopard trend or go full on, you’ll need some good leopard print tops in your closet this fall. A tee in the print is an easy staple that looks just as good with black jeans and Adidas as it does with contrasting leopard prints piled on. If you are looking for work-appropriate leopard, go for a blousey top in monochrome print, and pair it with a sharp pencil skirt and pumps.
Leopard Dresses
Dresses are a great way to make a statement with minimal effort, and that is doubly true in this bold print. I’m particularly feeling silky shirt dresses and flowy skirted numbers. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite plus size leopard dresses to shop now:
Leopard Coats
A leopard coat is always a good idea too! I have a faux fur one from Simply Be from last year that I love, but I am also SERIOUSLY eyeing this multicolor number from Avec Les Filles, a French-inspired straight size brand that I’ve been coveting from afar for ages. I didn’t know that they were doing plus, and I love that they are bringing serious statement pieces like this.
Leopard Bottoms
One item I am currently on the hunt for is a great flowy leopard skirt in plus. I’ve seen so many in straight sizes that I love, but the plus options are still lacking in this department. These Who What Wear and Eloquii ones look promising though! Also, if you love the colors in my sold-out City Chic dress, you can get the same print in skirt form here. I’ve rounded up my other favorite leopard skirt and pants options below:
Leopard Suits and Jumpsuits
If you are ready to make a fashion forward statement, there is no better way than a leopard power suit. I’ve seen my blogger friends in both the Lane Bryant and Eloquii suits, and they are both SO GOOD on. I’m also loving this City Chic leopard jumpsuit for a maximal leopard look.
Leopard Shoes
If you just want to dip a toe into the trend, start with a great pair of leopard shoes. From personal experience, I know that leopard booties are a serious compliment magnet, and can spice up even the simplest outfit. I have a pair of H&M Chelsea booties that are somehow still in one piece after years of heavy wear, and they still rake in the shoe envy, so investing in a pair of leopard print shoes will yield a great cost-per-wear return. I just got these Eloquii booties and I’ve already worn them a ton too. I rounded up some of my favorite leopard boots and shoes available to shop now, with a focus on wide width options.
