I just got back from another long weekend in the California dessert, and though I had fun under the hot sun, I am so happy to be back in New York. I am honestly over the extreme heat and ready for spring. There is something so revitalizing about a cool spring morning that warms up to a sunny afternoon, and I love being able to wear light layers instead of having to throw a coat on every morning. I’ve partnered with Curvy Contemporary to share some fun spring looks with you featuring and to share my thoughts about this new plus size shop. Read on for more (and an exclusive discount code!):
When I visited the Curvy Contemporary NYC office to learn more about the brand, my first impression was one of quality. I was immediately drawn to the gorgeous bold hue of this yellow long line cardigan, but I got even more excited when I touched it: It is SO SOFT. The fabric felt great on my hand, and feels even better on. The fine, lightweight knit is just the thing for spring mornings, or warding off any unexpected chilly air at night. (This would also be perfect for an overly-air conditioned office!)
Curvy Contemporary is a new online shop created to cater to the plus customer, but they are not newbies when it comes to fit. The designers have years of experience with plus fashion, and they fit all their pieces on plus size women so the proportions are spot-on. This attention to detail shows with the fit, which was true to size on all the items I’ve tried, with no pulling or pinching. I mean, look at the drape on this cardigan;
I paired the cardi with a black sweater from Curvy Contemporary, and my trusty black ankle jeans. If you are styling this look for a more formal office setting, ankle length black pants would do the trick just as well. This cardigan could easily be a pop of color on its own, but I figured I’d amp it up even more in celebration of spring. I love the combination of fuschia and yellow, so I pulled some old accessories out of my closet to get a very-wearable neon party going. This look is just the type of desk-to-drinks outfit that was always so key when I was working in an office – just add a bold lipcolor or a strong cat eye to switch it up in minutes.
Bonus: This cardigan comes in black too, so you can wrap yourself up in this soft goodness even if you are a die-hard color avoider (aka a New Yorker at heart). I’m loving bold color right now though, and plan to layer this rich yellow over short denim cutoffs and a cami as soon as the weather allows it! There’s another longline striped cardigan I am eyeing for this outfit idea too – I love the preppy vibe of it.
Curvy Contemporary also has some really cute top options for more casual days. A statement sleeve is one of the top trends for Spring/Summer 2018, and this ruffle sleeve top is the easiest way to update the classic jeans and tee combo. The fit on this is also true to size, and accommodates my bust comfortably.
The subtle textured lace detail on the front of the shirt adds enough formality that you could easily take this tee to the office (it would look amazing tucked into a sharp pencil skirt!), but I loved it paired with distressed denim and styled with a partial tuck. If you haven’t yet mastered the partial tuck, start practicing now – it takes a ton of trial and error, but once you get the hang of it, it is a wardrobe game changer!
One of my favorite things to do on a pleasant spring day is stroll around the scenic, winding, and completely nonsensical streets of the West Village – seriously, the grid breaks down entirely there, with West 4th intersecting with West 10th Street at one point! On a warmer day, my number one accessory is an iced coffee in hand.
The fun sleeve detail has me reaching for this top whenever I need something easy, comfortable, and cute. While I was at the Curvy Contemporary offices, I got a sneak peek of some upcoming pieces, and I can tell you to keep an eye out for some more fun warm weather go-tos coming very soon!
I was able to get an exclusive discount code for my readers to try this new plus shop too! Use CURVILY for 40% off sitewide for a limited time. They are also currently offering free shipping on all orders, so snap these pieces up now if you are eyeing them – if you are looking to spruce up your work to weekend wardrobe, this type of sale on quality pieces is especially great. Having clothes that feel nice against your skin can seriously up the work day experience, whether you are at a desk, running around to meetings, or writing in a coffee shop.
