Taking a Velvet Jumpsuit from Day to Night
When I first spotted this jumpsuit during one of my Forever 21 fitting room sessions, I immediately loved the color but wasn’t sure if I would get enough wear out of it to justify the purchase (however reasonably priced it was!).
My instant inclination was to wear it exactly like I accidentally styled it in the fitting room, with a red lip, beret, and booties. That look is perfect for a night out, but I had a ton of party looks laying in wait, so I decided to hold off.
Unexpectedly, this became one of those pieces I kept thinking about after I left. The wide leg pants and high waist combo makes my legs look loooong – quite a feat for my 5’4″ frame.
As soon as I had the idea to style this piece using the pinafore trend for day, I had to go back and get it.
I layered a ribbed ochre mockneck underneath it, playing up the rich purple hue, and anchored it with a bold buckle black belt and heeled boots.
I met my friend Liz of P.S. Its Fashion for lunch at Epicerie Boulud in the Oculus for lunch. On chilly days it is a great place to meet downtown – once you get on the train, you have plenty of shops and cafes to explored without having to go back outside (unless you decide to subject yourself to cold winds for photos of the cool architectural details outside #bloggerlife)
We headed back inside in short order!
