Exclusive Designers in Plus: Why I Love Gwynnie Bee
Last month I talked about some of the basics of my favorite clothing subscription service, Gwynnie Bee, including how much I love having access to an endless closet (even though I do not have an endless budget). The value of the variety GB offers is even more pointed when you consider their exclusive designer collaborations in plus.
Despite women wearing sizes 10+ making up the vast majority of the country, many designers do not offer clothing in these cusp and plus sizes. My frustration with the lack of designer options in plus is why I started the #plussizeplease movement back in 2014. Gwynnie Bee listened to the market’s demand for more, and started partnering with designers to bring their creations to sizes 10-32. Now they have an amazing and ever-growing line up of designer collaborations, including the newest one: Jay Godfrey.
A perfect New York piece, this classic tailored wide leg jumpsuit is very true to Jay Godfrey’s design aesthetic – and thankfully not watered down for plus. The overlay with the split back and the non-stretch crepe make this feel as high-end as it is, and it is very much a power [jump]suit. With the non-stretch material, the fit is so important, which is why the plus fit expertise that Gwynnie Bee offers to the designers makes such a difference.
This combination of attention to detail and staying true to each designer’s aesthetic makes each collab so exciting. While Jay Godfrey is all about polish, Rachel Antonoff’s collection is filled with cheeky prints and whimsy:
The fit on this Tracy Reese for GB dress is perfection, and something I had to keep with their TTB (Try Then Buy) program.
I also had to keep this Corey Lynn Calter print dress, which seriously fits like it was made for me.
This Amanda Uprichard dress is another favorite of the Gwynnie Bee designer collabs, and is really versatile enough for every season: I wore it last winter with tights, boots, and a leather jacket, and wore it last week with espadrille wedges.
