Need Now: The Ankle Jean
If there is one denim style you need for 2017, it is the ankle jean. This cropped length brings a modern edge to a wide range of styles, from flared to skinny to the fashion-week favorite, the step hem. Get at least one of each for maximum styling flexibility, and remember: The exposed ankle transitions into warmer weather seamlessly, but don’t be afraid to invest – ankle jeans also look great with a heeled bootie for fall (and all the strangely balmy winter days brought to us by global warming).
I currently have a few pairs of ankle jeans in rotation, including my perennial favorite Seine jeans from Universal Standard (above). I just found my perfect cropped flare to add to my collection last night, too:
These are from JCPenney’s a.n.a. brand, which I had no idea had great denim until last night! The fabric is soft, the fit is great, and the wash is just what I was looking for! Available in plus in stores, but for some reason they only have the straight size product page online right now.
Here are some other great options in plus (with a few on sale now!):
Cropped Flare
Step Hem
I just got my first pair of step hem jeans from Simply Be (first time trying their denim as well!) and I really like them. I’d suggest ordering true to size on these jeans, and erring on sizing down if you are between two sizes – these have a lot of stretch, and I am going to need to shrink mine a bit since I rounded up when ordering.
Skinny
If you looking to ease into the ankle jean trend, going for a silhouette you are comfortable with is the way to go. Grab a pair with distressing or a frayed hem for some added interest.
