OOTD: A Sack Dress With Shape

Sack dresses are a perennial favorite in fashion circles – the ultra relaxed fit feels very effortless and downtown chic.  It is also a silhouette that is often described as “only working on willowy size 0 models.”  As you probably know, I think those types of fashion rules that put “flattering” above all are crap, and I’ve happily worn oversized pieces that don’t nip in at my waist because they best reflected my personal style.  I loved the look of this Carmakoma mixed media dress, and expected it to be just as figure obscuring (something I was totally fine with).  So imagine my surprise when I realized that it somehow stayed true to the style while still having some shape!  I didn’t even know that was possible.

I got this dress from my Gwynnie Bee subscription, and expected it to be a one time wear, but I can’t let it go!  It is so versatile, and just very me.  The difference of having a garment designed and cut specifically for plus really shines through on this one.  I often wish my favorite straight size brands would just size up (that is why I started #plussizeplease, after all), but it is important not to forget the awesome plus size brands that are already here and committed to making fashion forward clothing for women who aren’t bound to outdated rules about what is flattering for plus.  Carmakoma exemplifies that to me, so I am happy to support them.
