Trying out Target’s new inclusive brand Wild Fable

On Wednesday, I got to get a sneak peek of Target’s new trend-driven brand Wild Fable.  I was immediately intrigued by the fun pieces I saw on the displays, but I didn’t want to get excited until I knew if it would be available in plus.  So I found one of the PR team members and asked them first thing.  She didn’t know for sure, so she had to go and check.  I wandered over to the accessories in the meantime, mentally starting a wishlist:

This checkerboard mini crossbody bag is definitely a wardrobe want

A few minutes later, she came back to me with some great news:

“The whole collection is available in sizes XS-3X.”

“The whole thing? All of the styles?”

“All of it!”

I wish this wasn’t such a surprise, but this is still all too rare an occurrence for most major retailers.  I was so happy to hear Target is getting it right with this line, and immediately decided to head to my nearest Target on launch day to give Wild Fable a shot.

When I got to the store, I found that straight and plus sizes were both merchandised on the mannequins, and hung together on the racks in the usual ascending size order.  This is definitely a step in the right direction: The common practice of putting plus in a back corner next to maternity is not the move.

Not every Wild Fable style was available in both straight and plus sizes in store, however.  I found about 50% of the styles I gravitated towards were on the racks in plus.  As I can often fit into Target’s XXL, I grabbed everything I wanted, always trying the plus size version if it was available.

This super cute striped mini dress is an XXL and fit comfortably with room to spare

There were so many items that caught my eye that I ended up trying on 23 different pieces from the debut Wild Fable collection.  I did my usual in-depth #inthefittingroom review of them all on Instagram Stories, and saved it all on the Wild Fable highlight on my Instagram profile page so you can go back and watch any time.

If you just want a quick look at what the items look like on a size 16/18 body and in motion, I also did an IGTV video of 23 items in less than 2.5 minutes.

All in all, I really like the new line, and had to remind myself of my tight budget so I didn’t walk out with half the collection.  I do want Target to put the full size range in stores for all styles, but the fact that they are making every style available in plus up to 3x (and tons that are available up to 4x too), and not changing or watering down the styles for plus, is a great start.
