A Maxi Dress for Fall
When I think of maxi dresses, the first thing that comes to mind is something quintessentially summer: Gauzy, freeflowing, with spaghetti straps and bright colors. It puts to mind breezy summer days and casual evening strolls. The easy freedom of this style does not need to be restricted by the seasons, however; with a more autumnal palette and a few quick styling switches, you can wear maxis well into fall. This one is on sale for only $20 right now (!!!) and was perfect for my day hanging out downtown with Liz Black for her birthday.
We came across tons of murals and street art throughout the day, and took full advantage of the backdrops 🙂
Fall Maxi Styling Tip #1: Add a moto (not pictured). I bought this red-accented maxi specifically to wear under the Jeff Cafone leather moto jacket I ordered, but yesterday’s high was in the mid 80’s (in October!), so a luxe leather topper would have been too warm. As soon as the temperatures cooperate, this will be my go-to styling move for this dress style.
Fall Maxi Styling Tip #2: Add booties and a choker. I paired this lightweight dress with minimal booties to keep the look fall. I completed the look with a wide black choker to tie the top and the top together. Since this dress was black, I didn’t necessarily need to do this, but the addition of a necklace in the same tone as the shoes provides much needed balance if you are pairing dark shoes with a lighter or brighter dress.
Fall Maxi Styling Tip #3: Don’t Neglect the Sunglasses! Sunnies are not a summer-only accessory – just grab a pair of trendy oval shades or color tinted lenses for greyer days.
