Summer Must Have: Rompers
Rompers are one of my favorite summer pieces – lightweight, flowy, easy to wear – it is one piece you can throw on and instantly look pulled together. The same can be said for a good dress, but rompers (or playsuits in UK parlance) have the added benefit of mobility: You can sit cross-legged on a picnic blanket or walk up the subway stairs with no fear of exposure. The one drawback (having to disrobe to use the restroom) is easily mitigated by getting one with an easy-off neckline. Look for easy closure mechanisms, and save the elaborate tie up options for when you have friends around. For example, the Gwynnie Bee romper pictured below has a cute and functional zip detail on the shoulder that makes getting in and out a breeze. It also looks good on a variety of body types – my blogger babe Shainna from A Thick Girl’s Closet and I are different shapes and heights (she’s 6’0″ and I’m 5’4″!) and we both loved this piece!
If you try on your first romper and aren’t feeling it, don’t take that as an indictment of all rompers – once you find one that you feel comfortable in, you’ll be hooked. Fortunately, there are TONS of options, which was not the case two short years ago. When I did my first plus size romper round up, I had to search and scrape to find enough picks; and now I had to struggle to narrow down the selection. What I came up with is pretty darn great though, with options starting at $12! Click through below to find your perfect romper (or three):
