New Plus Label: Harper & Liv

It seems like not that long ago, there were only a handful of plus size brands available, all with the same boring, dowdy styles. There has been much improvement in the past few years, but there are still holes to fill before plus has the same range and breadth of styles available in straight sizes. New plus size label Harper + Liv saw one of those holes, and set out to fill it with well-made, on trend pieces aimed at the stylish millennial shopper.

Buying Off Season: Carmakoma Sale

I know this amazing sequined, velvet, strong-shouldered, asymmetrical 80s-esque masterpiece of a dress is not seasonal (unless you are one of my lovely readers from the Southern Hemisphere), but I want to share it today because if you love the designs of Carmakoma but can't the prices, now is the time to shop. Their 60%+ off sales for past season clothes makes splurging on a statement dress like this "Antartica" style much easier to justify.

Lookbook Love: Mei Smith

One of the things I am really loving about the growth of plus fashion is the increase of options. There are designers and brands catering to a variety of aesthetics and budgets.  But one style was underrepresented in plus: Minimalism.  Sure, there are a lot of *basic* pieces out there, but barring personal favorite Carmakoma, there was nothing of the caliber of Helmut Lang or T by Alexander Wang. Ayanna Wu, founder of new store Mei Smith, saw that void in plus and set out to fill it.  In addition to Carmakoma, she found independent American straight size designers that fit the style, like Benjamin Jay, Shainna Mote, and Hackwith Design House, and convinced them to grade their patterns up to do plus sizes.  The result is one of the coolest plus size lookbooks I've seen in a while.  I've included the entire thing below, because I truly can't pick favorites.  I love the minimal athleisure vibe of the shoot.

I’m Hosting a Shopping Party and You’re Invited!

I'm so excited to announce that I will be hosting the Housing Works Fashion Figures event on Thursday, April 16th, from 5-8 PM at their Tribeca location.  I hosted their inaugural plus fashion event last year, and I am so happy to be back for more. Housing Works is just awesome in general (I've attested to my love for them time and again), and last year's event was packed with fantastic deals in plus. This year has donations from personal favorites such as Mynt 1792, Fashion to Figure, NYDJ, and indie label Rue 107 - I am almost as excited to shop as I am to host, provide styling tips, and chat about plus fashion with all you babes! There will be drinks and snacks to nibble on while you peruse, and possible surprises throughout the night.  The event is free to attend and will be a blast.  If last year's crowd is any indication, you'll want to get there early to snag the best picks :) Check out the adorable promo video Housing Works made for the event below, and head to the event page for more info!

Designer Collab: Lela Rose for Lane Bryant

I have swooned over the gorgeous florals and delicate prints of Lela Rose for years, so I was positively giddy when Lane Bryant announced their collaboration with her last fall. I attended the preview at the picturesque restaurant The Park, and was happy to discover that the collection is true to Lela Rose's signature aesthetic - not at all dulled down in the name of arbitrary fashion rules about what plus size women should or should not wear.
