Throwback Colorblocking with Hayley Elsaesser

I’ve been loving bold color looks lately, so when my favorite Canadian designer Hayley Elsaesser surprised me with a primary color-blocked moto, I literally did a little happy dance.  It is just the type of statement piece that can transform a look, and I love having items like that in my closet.  As much as I enjoy putting together a full, well-thought-through outfit, sometimes I just want something I can throw on over a black tee while still expressing my style.  This moto is the perfect example of that.

For a day filled with fashion events, though, I decided to play up the 90’s Cross Colours vibes with more primary hues.  Using a ribbed little black dress as my base, I added more pops of red in my accessories.  With the clear bag trend and the half moon glasses, the outfit ended up being a real throwback moment – I felt like I could be an extra in Clueless, and I was not even slightly mad at it.

This look took me from day to night with ease, and I can’t remember the last time I got so many compliments on an item.  If you are looking for a true statement jacket that is lightweight enough to wear in the summer, this cotton Hayley Elsaesser jacket is the way to go.
